| This document continues the ongoing work of the WECAFC ad hoc working group on sustainable moored fish aggregating device (FAD) fishing in the Lesser Antilles, which was first reported in Fisheries Report No. 683. The second meeting consisted of national and technical reports and a session of hands-on, practical, training for fishers from most of the participating countries. Part I contains the syntheses of national reports and technical papers on intersessional activities, together with the resulting discussions and decisions of the meeting, on the way forward. The meeting acknowledged that there is a nexus between managing all aspects of FAD fishing and ensuring the sustainability of the targetted resources. The meeting agreed to attempt the establishment of a cooperative pilot FAD deployment and monitoring intersessional activity at the subregional level. A proposal was drafted for submission to an international funding agency. Part II consists of the full technical papers, case studies and national reports in the language in which they were presented. This document and its conclusions serve to further record the actions and progress of the working group in sensitizing its members to adopt sustainable moored FAD fishing practices. |
