Kurzfassung auf Deutsch: The AdriaMed Technical Consultation on Adriatic Sea Small-Scale Fisheries was held on 14th and 15th October 2003 in Split, Croatia. The Consultation was attended by 21 experts from the four countries participating in the Project (Albania, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia). The objectives of the Technical Consultation were to review, on the basis of participants’experience, the current knowledge and the status of small-scale fisheries in Adriatic countries,
to consider the existing monitoring systems, to have up-to-date information on the available scientific and technical knowledge in each country and on the on-going programs focusing on small-scale fisheries. In particular, species whose stocks are shared and small scale fishing gears exploiting these species were dealt with by the Technical Consultation. The Technical Consultation identified the following activities to be regarded as priority and functional to
promoting regional scientific cooperation, focusing on the small-scale fishery sector: i)compilation of a gear catalogue of the gear types presently employed by the fisheries of the Adriatic coastal countries; ii) a case study aimed at the in-depth analysis of selected fishing communities; and iii) a fishing effectiveness appraisal based on comparative analyses of similar fishing gears or of the gears targeting a given species in different areas around the Adriatic basin. Four national reports and eight scientific contributions on small-scale fishery exploitation dynamics and interaction with other fisheries presented during the Consultation are included in the document.
