| Llevamos a cabo un análisis exhaustivo del contenido monetario de “El Chitón de las
Tarabillas”. Se muestra que Quevedo no comprendía enteramente la teoría monetaria
más avanzada de la época. Al tiempo, se documenta su utilización sesgada de la
evidencia empírica. Su defensa a ultranza de la política monetaria de Felipe IV y el
Conde Duque de Olivares le impide aceptar que el grave problema del vellón que
aparece en Castilla en la tercera década del siglo XVII se debe, en realidad, a dicha
política. |

| We analyse in depth the monetary content included into “El Chitón de las Tarabillas”.
It is shown that Quevedo was not fully aware of the most avanced monetary theory
prevailing at the time. In addition, we document Quevedo’s biased use of the empirical
evidence. His defense at all costs of the monetary policy implemented by King Philip
IV and the Count Duke of Olivares prevented him to accept that the serious “vellón
problem” impairing Castile in the 1620s was due, indeed, to such a policy. |
